Founded in 1994, Wumart Group is one of the largest Supermarket Chains Group in China with more than 1,800 stores across the country. In 2020, Wumart Group's annual revenue exceeds RMB 100 billion (approximately US$16 billion). By July 2020, Wumart has more than 700 supermarkets and convenience stores.
In April 2020, Wumart successfully acquired 80% stake of Chinese business of METRO, which is a German Fortune 500 company. By 2020, METRO China has 97 stores in 59 cities. Since entering the Chinese market in 1996, METRO served more than 4 million enterprises.
Prior to this, Wumart Group also acquired Merry Mart(the fourth largest retailer in Beijing), the listed company Xinhua Department Store (the largest department store in northwest China), the North China business of the Korean retailer LOTTE, and the listed company CBEST (the oldest and largest department store in southwest China) .
